Home HIV tests unlikely to hit Aussie shelves

Australia looks unlikely to approve self-administered over-the-counter HIV test kits, despite the product being set to go on sale in the United States within months. "There aren't any legally on the market in Australia and it's against the law in Australia to do home testing of infectious diseases," she said. "In looking at the tests for use at point-of-care in Australia, we've been focusing on tests that use finger-prick blood rather than oral sample because the oral samples test just aren't up to the same standard."
