Adityanath attacks Cong for including secular, socialist in Constitution Preamble
Hindustan TimesUttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday attacked the Congress for “strangling” the Constitution by “tampering with” its Preamble to include the words “secular” and “socialist”. Adityanath argued that the original Constitution drafted under the chairmanship of BR Ambedkar on November 26, 1949, did not include the words “secular” or “socialist.” He said Congress added these terms during the Emergency. Adityanath referred to the formation of the Constituent Assembly in 1946, its first meeting, the election of Rajendra Prasad as its president, and the Constitution drafting committee under Ambedkar’s chairmanship. Adityanath said the Bharatiya Janata Party government restored and strengthened this faith, upholding the true essence of the Constitution.
