Labor leader Dean Winter's trying to tread a narrow path on his quest to avoid the party's fifth straight election defeat. More opposition bills passing Under Mr Winter's leadership, Labor has also pushed legislation the government hasn't liked, such as industrial manslaughter laws that have now passed both houses of parliament. There are multiple left-leaning independents and minor parties, all hoping to profit if Labor's "jobs, jobs, jobs" mantra is considered too anti-environment by voters, despite Mr Winter's insistence Tasmania is at its best when the state is "celebrating our unique environment at the same time as creating jobs and growing our economy". Much depends on whether Mr Winter's "jobs, jobs, jobs" mantra can resonate, and draw voters to a party that's too often seen by voters to be directionless.
