One arrested for cheating senior citizen in ‘digital arrest’ scam

The Tirupati police arrested a person for cheating a senior citizen in the pretext of ‘digital arrest’ and recovered an amount of ₹24.5 lakh swindled from her. Following this, Chittoor Superintendent of Police and Tirupati SP in-charge Mr. Manikanta Chandolu instructed the cybercrime officials to freeze all the accounts of the accused, while the Central crime team launched a hunt to arrest him. The main accused’s accomplice, Palakollu Arun Vinay Kumar, was arrested from Rajamahendravaram and ₹24.5 lakh recovered from his possession. He appealed to the public to call the district police through the WhatsApp number 8099999977, or the cyber toll-free number 1930 or 112 for getting their grievances across to the department.
