New NCERT textbooks may be released only for Classes 3 and 6 in 2024-25
As the academic year 2024-25 approaches, indications suggest that the National Council of Educational Research and Training is gearing up to introduce new textbooks, albeit selectively, with Classes 3 and 6 expected to receive the updates. According to sources within the Ministry of Education who spoke to the media, the NCERT is prioritising the release of new textbooks for Class 3 and 6 for the upcoming academic year. The NCERT has indicated that textbooks for Classes 6, 9, and 11 may be developed next, with subsequent releases for Classes 7, 10, and 12 in the following academic year. Subsequently, between 2002 and 2004, during the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's NDA government, a second generation of textbooks emerged, which was critiqued for its perceived alignment with Hindu nationalist ideology.
