Six people have been arrested so far and the private car of the main accused, Akhilesh Shukla, was seized by authorities days after he allegedly attacked his Marathi-speaking neighbours and subjected them to community-based abuse in Thane's Kalyan area. On December 18, Shukla, a former employee of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, along with 10-15 others, attacked a family living in Ajmera Heights Society after a dispute over burning 'agarbatti' escalated into a violent altercation. Six people, including Shukla, his wife Geeta Shukla, Sumit Jadhav, Darshan Borade and two others have been arrested and sent to police custody for six days. The Chief Minister, while speaking in the Maharashtra Assembly, said a First Information Report has already been registered at the Khadakpada police station in Thane district, and Shukla will be suspended from his job.
