Alexander Gusev, the governor of the Russian region of Voronezh, declared Zavadsky dead “at a combat post in the special operation zone” but provided no other information. According to the investigative news site iStories, Zavadsky was the seventh Major General whose passing has been officially recognised by Russia, making him one of the 12 senior officers to have been declared killed since the conflict began.
