
AIIMS construction work progressing at a steady pace, says CEO
The HinduWork on construction of buildings to house All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Madurai, which started in May last year, is progressing steadily and it would be completed by February 2027, said its executive director and CEO M. Hanumantha Rao here on Thursday. In a press release, he said that AIIMS-Madurai, which is functioning temporarily on the campus of Government Medical College, Ramanathapuram, would be shifted to Thoppur near Madurai by end of 2025 or early 2026. The first phase, he said, includes key facilities like the academic block, hospital OP services, hostels and essential service buildings. The layout comprises an academic zone, hospital zone, hostel zone, residential zone, sports facilities and a 750-seater auditorium, ensuring a holistic environment for both students and patients.
