Mark Davis learning patience and other Raiders takeaways from NFL owners’ meetings
New York TimesPHOENIX — You can say a lot of things about Raiders owner Mark Davis, but you can’t question his desire to have a winning team. Davis was in good spirits when he walked the halls of the Arizona Biltmore Resort at the NFL owners’ meetings this week, but he doesn’t like that people are calling his team “Patriots West” as the Raiders enter the second year of the Dave Ziegler-Josh McDaniels regime. “But he’s going to be doing great.” Mark Davis believes Dave Ziegler will do well as general manager, even if he entered the job under experienced. “We’ve had one good draft since I took over, and that was in 2014, when we got Derek and Khalil,” Davis said. “Other than that, we haven’t done a good job, and that’s something that it takes to build a sustainable winner.” The success of the Raiders’ 12 draft picks next month will be a big part of that, and Davis will be testing that new-found patience to let it all play out.
