Omicron reduces vaccine efficacy against infection and transmission: WHO

The Omicron coronavirus variant, which has already spread across 63 countries, has been found to be more transmissible than the Delta strain, the World Health Organization said Sunday. Early evidence suggests Omicron causes "a reduction in vaccine efficacy against infection and transmission", the WHO said in a technical brief, the AFP said in a report. "Given the current available data, it is likely that Omicron will outpace the Delta variant where community transmission occurs," it added. It was also found to have reduced vaccine efficacy but its symptoms are less severe, according to early data, AFP said quoting WHO press statement.
