Coimbatore Central Prison launches ‘Freedom Chickens’

With its own poultry farm functioning full-fledged, the Coimbatore Central Prison has started selling broiler chicken through its stall ‘Freedom Chickens’ at subsidised rates. According to him, the poultry farm in the central prison was established on the instructions of Maheshwar Dayal, Director General of Police, Prisons and Correctional Services. As on Wednesday, Coimbatore Central Prison had 2,249 prisoners, including 926 convicts. Besides meeting its own demand, the central prison is also supplying chicken to 16 sub-jails in the region, including the ones at Gobichettipalayam, Sathyamangalam and Erode.
