James 'Double Duty' Daniels is going to get a lot of reps, and more news from Bears training camp
New York TimesBOURBONNAIS, Ill. — James Daniels should lead the Bears in reps this summer. Daniels, the team’s second-round pick, said the transition from playing guard one play and center the next has been “pretty smooth,” and he also credited two players mentoring him. Find one or two things to improve on every day and keep on doing that and that’s how I get better.” The footwork, Daniels said, is similar for the two interior positions, but obviously where he is on the line provides the noticeable difference in how he plays when he alternates back and forth. “Instead of the ball being run right behind you, it’s two gaps behind you, so just have to realize the aiming point of the play.” In May, offensive line coach Harry Hiestand explained his connection to Kirk Ferentz, and how Ferentz’s coaching is evident whenever he sees Daniels on the field. “In college, you really didn’t know how good the players in the NFL are,” Daniels said.
