IIT Madras is creating an astronaut training module using AR/VR/MR for ISRO's human space flight programmes
A training programme for the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme will be created by IIT Madras, combining augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality. Recently, ISRO and IIT Madras inked a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on implementing Extended Reality and other technologies in Indian human spaceflight programmes. ABOUT THE ISRO-IIT COLLABORATION Elaborating on the key aspects of this collaboration between ISRO and IIT Madras, Professor M Manivannan, Department of Applied Mechanics, IIT Madras, and Principle Investigator, XTIC-IIT Madras, said, “XR Technologies has the potential to add value in many aspects of human spaceflight programme specifically in shortening the design cycle and simulating the space environment.” “We will start with developing models of physiological systems as well as design optimization studies.
