Boy killed, 2 other teens injured as landmine from Kargil war goes off in Ladakh

A 13-year-old boy was killed and two others injured after an unexploded landmine from the Kargil war exploded in a remote village in Kargil district of Ladakh on Sunday. The three teenagers were playing near the Astro football ground at Kurbathang when they found an unexploded landmine, believed to be from the 1999 Kargil war. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased boy and Rs 1 lakh of assistance for the injured boys. "We are starting the operation to remove dangerous ammunition in a limited time duration in the blind areas of Kargil and other places," he added.
