Controversy over traffic in Cubbon Park reignites

The controversy surrounding traffic inside Cubbon Park has erupted again. While traffic movement inside Cubbon Park had always been a matter of contention, a few years ago, it was decided that vehicular movement would not be allowed inside the park on second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays and all the other public holidays. Confirming the BTP’s latest move, Mr. Anucheth told The Hindu, “We have requested for Cubbon Park to be kept open on all days except Sundays.” Officials of the Horticulture Department, which maintains Cubbon Park, also said a meeting had been convened on January 22 by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajaneesh to discuss the matter. We will also present our views and the impact on citizens, and then the government will make the final decision,” said G. Kusuma, Deputy Director of Cubbon Park, Horticulture Department. Meanwhile, an online petition called ‘Cubbon Park Pradakshiney Haaki’ has been started by citizens demanding “Please leave our Cubbon Park alone”.
