Sambhaji Maharaj statue unveiled in Belagavi amid opposition

Descendant of Shivaji Maharaj and Public Works Minister in Maharashtra Shivendra Raje Bhosle unveiled a statue of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second Chatrapati of the Maratha empire, at Angol in Belagavi on Sunday. But MLA Abhay Patil said they will do it on Sunday saying that the statue and the castle behind it are ready, all arrangements have been made and that there is no case pending. Earlier in the afternoon, Mayor Savita Kamble and Deputy Mayor Anand Chauhan came to the site and urged the police to remove all barricades to allow smooth organisation of the event. The Mayor argued with Deputy Commissioner of the city corporation Laxmi Nippanikar, who tried to tell her that due permits have not been obtained, asking her to make all arrangements for the event.
