Clemson’s Travis Etienne makes his case to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft
New York TimesCLEMSON, S.C. — When Travis Etienne stunned college football and returned to Clemson for his senior season instead of entering the 2020 NFL Draft, the Tigers’ star running back made his reasons clear. “I think that’s just how explosive he is,” said Rusty Phelps, Etienne’s high school coach at Jennings High School in Louisiana. “It really showed me what I need to work on.” Etienne finished his Clemson career as the conference’s most prolific running back, with 4,952 yards and 70 rushing touchdowns on 686 carries. Just being able to impact the team each and every down, I feel like is what makes me different and worthy of the first round.” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said last season that the feedback Etienne got from his second-round draft grade was “pretty nitpicky if you ask me” and said that Etienne would have been his pick had he been a NFL general manager in need of a running back.
