Shandong sees rebound in tourism during Golden Week holiday
China DailyTourists made 62.32 million trips to East China's Shandong province during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from Oct 1 to 8, around 81.9 percent of last year's number, according to the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. Total tourism revenue during the Golden Week holiday reached 44.9 billion yuan, 71.5 percent of the 2019 figure. This year's Golden Week holiday has demonstrated the province's strong rebound since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is expected to accelerate local economic recovery, said local officials. Red tourism, which refers to visits to prominent sites from during China's revolutionary period, proved popular among tourists, with the province's red tourism destinations seeing a huge influx in visitors during the holiday.
