UP: IIT-Kanpur Professor, 53, Suffers Cardiac Arrest Mid Speech During Alumni Meet, Dies on Stage

A senior professor of IIT-Kanpur has died after suffering a cardiac arrest while he was delivering a lecture during an alumni meet at the institute. Khandekar was delivering a lecture when he felt severe chest pain and started sweating profusely, according to former IIT-Kanpur Director Abhay Karandikar. Talking to news agency PTI over the phone from Delhi, Karandikar also expressed shock over Khandekar’s sudden demise, whom he described as an outstanding teacher and researcher. He said the body has been kept at the IIT-Kanpur’s health centre and final rites would be performed only after the arrival of his only son Pravah Khandekar who is studying at Cambridge University.
