Local Government Minister Ron Hoenig wrote to Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun on Thursday giving him seven days to "show cause" as to why the council should not be suspended and its September election delayed. Cr Mannoun criticised the investigation's interim report as "purely political" and vowed to make a "full response" within the seven days, rejecting suggestions the council should be suspended. Labor councillor and Member for Liverpool, Charishma Kaliyanda, said she believed the council should be suspended and that a public inquiry was "necessary".
