Bombay HC issues notice to Devendra Fadnavis over bank account transfer irregularities
The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has issued fresh notice to the former chief minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation pertaining to irregularities in the transfer of accounts of police officials from a nationalised bank to a private bank. The plea claimed that Fadnavis, during his tenure as state CM, misused his position to favour his wife who occupied a senior position in a private bank where the accounts of police officials were transferred. The then Fadnavis-led government had transferred all bank accounts of the police officials and beneficiaries of the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana to Axis Bank, which was not only a private bank but where his wife occupied a senior position as Vice President. "The chief minister of Maharashtra state used his official position to obtain pecuniary advantage of Amruta Fadnavis without any public interest” the plea stated and sought a CBI investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
