Railways to run over 1300 trains for Prayagraj’s Mahakumbh Mela from January 13 to February 26

An estimated 40 crore pilgrims will visit the Mahakumbh Mela, which is set to take place next year in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, the Railways has said. Apart from 140 regular trains, the Railways will run 1,225 special trains during the six main ritualistic bathing days during the mela period. “In order to cater to pilgrims wishing to visit Ayodhya and Kashi, Railways plans to run fast ring MEMU service with stoppages at major stations such as Prayagraj, Prayag, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Rambagh and so on,” a Railways spokesperson said. The Railways is executing infrastructural projects worth ₹933.62 crore, which includes ₹494.90 crore towards enhancement of passenger amenities and ₹438.72 crore towards construction of road overbridges and underbridges, the spokesperson said.
