QB Jeff Sims enters transfer portal, leaves Nebraska after 1 season

— Quarterback Jeff Sims is leaving Nebraska after one season. Sims started season-opening Nebraska losses at Minnesota and Colorado, committing six turnovers in the defeats. Two weeks later against Maryland, after replacement starter Heinrich Haarberg was hurt, Sims entered and directed the Huskers to 10 points, but he committed three more turnovers in the 13-10 defeat. Sims was a good teammate throughout, according to Nebraska coaches and the players who awarded him with a single-digit jersey in August — given to the toughest players on the team.
