Manipur Chief Minister thanks Amit Shah for new border rules for Myanmar residents
India TodayManipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the Home Ministry's decision to introduce regulations that allow Myanmar residents living within 10 km of the border to temporarily enter the state with a "border pass" issued by the Assam Rifles, was "a good beginning". Singh thanked Home Minister Amit Shah for introducing the new regulations and said that "nobody paid attention to who was going in or out of the country" earlier. "I urge everyone to take extra care and use advanced machinery to prevent illegal immigration," the Chief Minister said. The Chief Minister said that the immediate cause of the ongoing crisis in the state, which began on May 3, 2023, was the rally staged against the Manipur High Court's order, which asked the state to consider reservations for the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe list.
