R-Day in Hyderabad: Patriotism in the air, tricolour in every corner

The 76th Republic Day on Sunday, marking the adoption of India’s constitution and the country becoming a republic in 1950, was celebrated with patriotic fervour and energy with bright display of the national flag and related events. Schoolchildren donning their favourite national leaders’ costume, flag-hoisting events in street corners and residential colonies, and widespread buntings of the national flag were sighted across the city. COVA Network, a national network of voluntary organisations working for communal harmony and community empowerment in India and peace, as part of the celebrations, as part of the celebrations, staged a play titled ‘praja nahin nagrik hai hum’ on citizen rights to participate in local governance. While activities in the forenoon were filled with patriotic fervour and remembering the constitutional principles, the relaxed afternoon and the evening showed waves of tricolour ribbons, buntings and flag decorations at entertainment venues, restaurants and malls that offered special discounts to patrons.
