Why embryos are now considered 'unborn children' in Alabama The majority opinion of the Alabama Supreme Court argues "unborn children" have long been considered to be covered by the state's Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. In his concurring opinion, which included excerpts from the Bible, Chief Justice Tom Parker pointed to Alabama's constitution, which declares a state policy to "recognise and support the sanctity of unborn life": "Human life cannot be wrongfully destroyed without incurring the wrath of a holy God, who views the destruction of His image as an affront to Himself. In the court's only dissenting opinion, Justice Greg Cook warned the ruling would "almost certainly" end the creation of frozen embryos in Alabama, and he urged state legislators to consider the matter. Republican state senator Tim Melson has responded with a bill stating that while an in vitro embryo is considered "potential life", it's not an "unborn life" unless it's implanted into a uterus.
