Firefighters forced out of burning townhouse at Teralba with tenant feared trapped inside

ABC

Firefighters were forced from a burning Lake Macquarie townhouse early today as they searched inside for one person, but they stopped it spreading in the 22-unit complex. Fire and Rescue New South Wales said crews entered the unit to extinguish the flames and check if anyone was inside, but the blaze was too intense and some of the internal structure started to collapse. Praise for firefighters "There was a lot of fire in the unit when the first crews arrived," said Fire and Rescue NSW duty commander Glenn Willsallen. "They all did exceptional work, and very rapidly, with lines of hose inside the unit to try and extinguish the main fire … while they continued to do search and rescue.
