Mumbai terror attack plotter Abdul Rehman Makki dies in Pakistan
India TodayMumbai terror attack plotter and Lashkar-e-Taiba deputy chief Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki died on Friday, December 27, in Pakistan after suffering a heart attack, sources told India Today TV. In 2020, a Pakistani court also convicted him in cases linked to terror financing and sentenced him to life imprisonment.âïIn January 2023, Makki was also declared a "global terrorist" by the United Nations Security Council. Apart from the Mumbai terror attack, Makki was also a wanted terrorist in India by the security agencies for his involvement in the Red Fort attack, where six terrorists had stormed Red Fort on December 22, 2000, and had opened fire on the security forces guarding the Fort. While declaring Makki a "global terrorist", the United Nations Security Council had said, "The Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267, 1989 and 2253 concerning ISIL, Al-Qaida, and associated individuals, groups, undertakings and entities approved the addition of the entry specified below to its ISIL and Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2610 and adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations."
