Army to get 100 additional K9 Vajra artillery guns as cabinet committee clears deal
India TodayThe cabinet committee approved the acquisition of 12 Su30 MKI aircraft along with 100 additional K9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers to strengthen the Army’s capabilities along the Line of Actual Control with China. The new artillery systems will feature upgrades for high-altitude deployment, ensuring India’s readiness to counter challenges in regions like Ladakh, where temperatures can decrease to -20°C. The K9 Vajra, a 155 mm tracked artillery gun, combines the firepower of a tank with advanced mobility and precision and was initially deployed in the Rajasthan desert. This deployment underlines India’s shift to focus its artillery strength against potential threats from China, complementing other advanced systems like Dhanush and the ultra-light M777 howitzers already stationed in the area.
