Restrictions enforced to streamline traffic

HYDERABAD: In order to ease and streamline the traffic, the Hyderabad city police on Saturday announced widespread restrictions in and around the city on the movement of heavy goods vehicles, light-moving and slow-moving vehicles. The decision to impose the restrictions not only on heavy goods vehicles but also on cycle rickshaws, bullock carts, and push carts, was taken to maintain smooth traffic flow and avoid congestion and to “prevent danger and to remove inconvenience to the public,” the police said. The decision was taken following a recent assessment of traffic situations in the city and the contribution of movement of heavy goods vehicles, local lorries, medium goods vehicles, private buses, and slow-moving vehicles like cycle rickshaws, powered tillers, tractors, push carts, and bullock carts, the police said. These restrictions have been placed on 78 road stretches, while on another 53 road stretches, these vehicles will be allowed to ply between 11 p.m., and 7 a.m. Further, on 22 road stretches, the police said it was restricting the entry and movement of slow-moving vehicles like bullock carts, cycler rickshaws, push carts, powered tillers, and tractors as their movement is seriously affecting the smooth flow of traffic, besides causing severe congestion by holding up traffic.
