State plans to add 21,000 MW in five years
The HinduAs the State is set to implement the prestigious Power for All scheme from Oct. 2, the Energy Department has drawn up plans to augment the installed generation in the State from the existing 8,037 MW to 29,017 MW in the next five years. In a bid to achieve an ideal mix of all generation sources in this direction, the department has planned to ensure capacity increase of 8,840 MW through coal based power plants, 1,010 MW hydel projects, 5,030 MW solar and 4,150 MW wind in addition to the 1,950 MW from the Central generating stations outside the State. Given the magnitude of enhancement of thermal power generation, the department has decided to focus on development of coal blocks allotted to the State besides building up coal stocks at APGenco stations. The department, senior officials said, is targeting the investments under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana and IPDS schemes for tapping funds from the Central Government.
