Maharashtra contractors claim dues worth over Rs 1 lakh crore unpaid, threaten strike

Contractors in Maharashtra are left reeling as the various government departments in the state have allegedly failed to pay them over Rs 1 lakh crore in the past eight months. MSCA President Milind Bhosale claimed that unpaid bills from the Public Works Department alone amount to nearly Rs 46,000 crore since July 2024. Dada Ingale, working president of the Mumbai Contractors’ Association, stated that Rs 600 crore worth of bills remain unpaid in three divisions of the Mumbai circle. According to the contractors body, the Public Works Department, Jal Jeevan Mission, Rural Development, Irrigation Department and the Urban Development has to pay Rs 17,000 crore.
