Average house price jumped £32,000 in last year

The average house price in the UK has jumped by £32,000 over the last year with the typical house now costing £283,000 as households grapple with the cost-of-living crisis. Within England, the South West was the region with the highest annual house price growth, with average prices increasing by 16.9 per cent in the year to May. Average house prices increased over the year in England to £302,000, in Wales to £212,000, in Scotland to £188,000 and in Northern Ireland to £165,000 Private rental prices grew by 2.9 per cent in England, 1.9 per cent in Wales and 3.5 per cent in Scotland in the 12 months to June. The ONS also released rental price figures, showing that private rental prices paid by tenants rose by 3.0 per cent in the 12 months to June, up from 2.8 per cent in the 12 months to May Consumer Prices Index inflation rose to 9.4 per cent in June, up from 9.1 per cent in May and remaining at the highest level since February 1982.
