Movie Tree To Be Revived at Kumaradevam

Kakinada: The 170-year-old Samanea saman or Nidra Ganneru in Telugu, which became popular as “Movie Tree”, is being revived after it had got uprooted during the recent floods in River Godavari. Kovvuru sub-collector Ashuthosh Srivatsav told Deccan Chronicle that the Rotary Club and Forest Department will make combined efforts to regenerate and replant the tree at Kumaradevam in about 60 days. While many people, including cinema directors and producers, have expressed their concern over uprooting of the tree, Rotary Club of Rajamahendravaram Icon has come forward to revive and replant the tree. East Godavari district collector P. Prashanthi took the initiative for replanting the tree and gave the responsibility to the club.
