Sambhal's Jama Masjid among 10 mosques to be covered during Holi procession

The Sambhal police in Uttar Pradesh have decided to cover 10 mosques, including the historic Jama Masjid, with plastic sheets and tarpaulins that will fall along the route of a Holi procession on March 14. Additional Superintendent of Police Shrishchandra said all religious sites along the traditional route of the Holi procession would be covered following mutual agreement between both communities. Tension has been simmering in Sambhal since last November following a court-ordered survey of the Jama Masjid based on claims that the mosque was constructed on the ruins of a Hindu temple. Earlier this week, a row erupted after senior Sambhal police officer Anuj Kumar Chaudhary "advised" Muslims to stay indoors during Holi as it comes only once a year.
