Inside the Ducks’ patient and purposeful development plan for Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale

New York Times

IRVINE, Calif. — Act 2 of Trevor Zegras working to one day become the Ducks’ No. It began with a week of development camp, which Zegras attended the first of these two years ago after being drafted and Drysdale being here even though he has already played games at two levels of pro hockey and defended against some of the NHL’s top players. “First and foremost, I’m just trying to make the team out of camp obviously,” Zegras said. “Obviously, the numbers speak for itself,” said the center, referencing Anaheim’s 17-30-9 last season and not the 13 points he had in his 24 games. As he put it, “If that opportunity’s there” to center the Ducks’ top line, he’ll make every effort to grab that prime position.
