Late Manohar Parrikar's Son, Local Heavyweight, and AAP Turncoat Vie for Panaji Pie in Multi-corner Contest
News 18The BJP rebel and son of the former chief minister the late Manohar Parrikar, local heavyweight Atanasio Monserrate of BJP, AAP's former chief ministerial candidate for Goa now contesting on a Congress ticket, and an AAP nominee trying his luck for the third time all are in the fray from Panaji constituency, making it one of the capital contests as Goa votes on Monday. Apart from the traditional contenders – BJP and Congress – Aam Aadmi Party, Goa Forward Party, Trinamool Congress Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Shiv Sena, Revolutionary Goans Party, Goencho Swabhimaan Party, Jai Mahabharat Party and Sambhaji Brigade are in the fray. This is also the first assembly poll that the BJP is contesting without former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who died in 2019. Some prominent candidates in the fray include Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat, former CMs Churchill Alemao, Ravi Naik, Laxmikant Parsekar, former deputy CMs Vijai Sardesai and Sudin Dhavalikar, late CM Manohar Parrikar’s son Utpal Parrikar and AAP’s CM face Amit Paleker.
