After a three-month break it was perhaps too much to ask that the football should be particularly compelling. Aston Villa and Sheffield United could not find a breakthrough as the Premier League restarted TV audiences had slim pickings for real excitement after the league's three-month suspension Wilder had spoken beforehand of the need for his team to create their own tempo.
