5 reasons why Indians don't need Oscars!
India TV NewsAre you kidding.what do you mean that 'no Bollywood star' would get chance to walk down the red carpet at the Oscars this year? Everytime we are denied an entry in Oscars, all hell breaks loose and the eternal question lingers upon us, why our films are not competing with world cinema! Here are 5 reasons why we think Indians shouldn't bother about Oscars: 1) They mostly pickup movies which shows India in poor light Be it 'Salaam Bombay' or 'Water' or even 'Slumdog Millionaire', for that matter only films which shows poverty and bigotry in India gets a nod from the Academy. 3) Oscars are the Hollywood version of Filmfare awards On the lines of Filmfare, Academy has often ignored path-breaking work in their own backyard, and followed conventional norms in their selection process. A slew of Indian regional films are doing us proud abroad, a new wave of Marathi, Bengali, Tamil filmmakers are making thought provoking film, which often goes unnoticed because we refuse to look beyond Hollywood.
