Monsoon menace: Conjunctivitis cases rise in India, schools shut in Itanagar

As whole India continues to receives severe rainfall, conjunctivitis cases have been on rise in several states of India. Dr Aarti Nangia, senior consultant, ophthalmology at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj here, said there has been an "increase" in cases of eye infections and conjunctivitis reported in Delhi lately. Schools closed in Arunachal Pradesh's Imphal to curb conjunctivitis In the wake of rising cases of eye infections, also known as pink eyes,all the schools have been closed till 29 July, sayd Office of the Deputy Commissioner in an official notice on Monday. Other than the capital city of the state, Longding district administration also announced temporary closure of schools in Kanubari sub-division following outbreak of conjunctivitis. In a circular, Longding Deputy Commissioner Bani Lego said, "Considering the seriousness of the matter, all the heads of schools under Kanubari and Lawnu educational blocks are hereby directed to close down their respective schools temporarily till July 29, in order to break the chain of spread of the disease".
