Will impose costs: Top court blasts states for not implementing POSH directives
India TodayThe Supreme Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the states that had not filed compliance affidavits on its directives to tackle sexual harassment in government departments and undertakings. Last year, in December, the Supreme Court called for strict compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, or POSH Act, and issued a slew of directions, including the setting up of an internal complaints' committee in all government departments. The Supreme Court's outburst came after the amicus curiae assisting the court in the matter said compliance was not being done properly, and the implementation was "lamentable" in the private sector. The top court also ordered deputy commissioners/district magistrates to survey public and private organisations for compliance with its directive on forming internal complaints panels.
