Stipend For MBBS Students During Compulsory Internship : Supreme Court Issues Notice To Army College Of Medical Science
Live LawThe Supreme Court, on Monday, issued notice in a plea seeking directions against Army College of Medical Science for non-payment of stipend to MBBS students undergoing compulsory one year internship in the Army base hospital. The petition submits that the act of the respondent college which is affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University is contrary to Clause 3, Schedule IV of the National Medical Commission Regulations, 2021, which entitles the petition and similarly situated students to a regular stipend. The petition highlights that the students are also required to travel for their rural postings in Najafgarh, yet, they are being denied the basic monthly stipend by the respondent college. The petition seeks directions to the respondent college to provide regular monthly stipend to the petitioners for the entire period of their internship.
