PSV edge past Excelsior in Dutch Cup last 16, AZ knock out Ajax

Dutch News

PSV Eindhoven survived a scare to progress to the quarter-finals of the Dutch Cup after being taken to extra time by Eerste Divisie side Excelsior. PSV equalised in the seventh minute of injury time when Luuk de Jong’s knock-on found Ismael Saibari unmarked, after Ricardo Pepi had pulled a goal back on 86 minutes. Pepi gave PSV the lead for the first time in the first half of extra-time before Ivan Perisic added a fifth, while Excelsior had the last word when Richie Omorowa converted a penalty in the 117th minute. Referee Marc Nagtegaal booked Barendrecht’s Wouter Vermeer for a lunging tackle in the first half, but was asked to consider upgrading the card to red.
