Military diplomacy aims to help sustain international peace
China DailyXi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, attends a reception on Sunday to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army, which falls on Aug 1. However, the challenges for China's military diplomacy have increased due to the Cold War mentality of the United States and its allies, which has driven them to label China as a strategic competitor. The comprehensively improved military diplomatic practices have promoted China's overall diplomacy and helped it to better safeguard national security, maintain world peace and strengthen international security cooperation. However, the "China threat" theory bandied about by the US-led West has been disrupting the progress of China's military diplomacy. China should use military diplomacy to maintain global peace, by developing it into a channel to make friends, a platform to dispel doubts and enhance mutual trust, a bridge for technological communication, and a means to safeguard the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity and social development, as well as promote the modernization of the armed forces, so it can contribute more to world peace, stability and security.
