From bull riding to croc wrestling to cockroach, frog and yabby racing, Aussies have proven they will take on just about any beast for the sake of an entertaining bush contest. Key points: The competition and the races drew record crowd numbers this year The unpredictable nature of camels makes perfecting the sport a challenge Contestants must avoid the camel's kicking legs as they race to attach duct tape Folks in outback Queensland set the bar high at the weekend in one such event during a wild and wacky camel tagging competition in the red-dirt town of Boulia. A record crowd of more than 4,000 converged on the tiny town for the three-day Boulia Camel Races event, colloquially dubbed the Melbourne Cup of camel races. While the races and novelty events made up the weekend, it was the opportunity to watch Joe Blows scrambling to stick duct tape on a feisty camel that drew the crowds. "We couldn't believe how far some of the contestants had travelled to be here," camel tagging event organiser Ben Brown said.
