Trump ally Rudy Giuliani officially disbarred in D.C. over 2020 election actions

Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and a former attorney for Donald Trump, has been officially disbarred in Washington, D.C. Last year, the bar discipline committee in D.C. suspended Giuliani's law license over "frivolous" and "destructive" attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election on behalf of Trump. "On consideration of the certified order from the state of New York disbarring respondent from the practice of law; this court's July 25, 2024, order maintaining respondent's suspension pending final disposition of this proceeding and directing him to show cause why reciprocal discipline should not be imposed," the order said. "By prosecuting that destructive case Mr. Giuliani, a sworn officer of the Court, forfeited his right to practice law." Giuliani's attorney John Leventhal has argued that Giuliani did not deserve to be punished because the events following the November 2020 election were "chaotic."
