Read our privacy policy *The following story contains light spoilers for Alien: Romulus* Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez has shed light on an overlooked link to Ridley Scott’s 2012 film Prometheus hidden within the new movie. “It’s probably a new species, because that mix never happened before.” The black goo, also known as the “black liquid” is scientifically known as chemical A0-3959X.91–15, and was created by the ancient alien race featured in Prometheus, called the Engineers. An Engineer is seen ingesting the life-giving black liquid Alien: Romulus has received mostly positive reviews from fans and critics, with its score on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes currently sitting at a favourable 86 per cent based on over 2,500 reviews.
