Union gears up to protect entitlements as Queensland Nickel is placed into voluntary administration

ABC

Queensland Workers' Union leaders say they will fight for the rights of workers at Queensland Nickel after it was placed into voluntary administration earlier today. Clive Palmer's nickel and cobalt refinery at Yabulu, north-west of Townsville, announced the news this morning, just days after the company sacked 237 workers, citing low commodity prices and lack of government support. Administrators FTI Consulting will conduct an independent assessment of Queensland Nickel's finances, and the company will meet with the Department of State Development this afternoon. Australian Workers' Union state secretary Ben Swan said he hoped the company could continue trading and keep the remaining 550 employees in work.
