Assam CM Warns of Rohingya Infiltration, Calls for Coordinated Border Security Efforts
Deccan ChronicleAssam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for a coordinated effort among bordering states to tackle the ongoing influx of Rohingya Muslims from Bangladesh into India. He emphasized that the perception of Hindu Bengalis seeking refuge due to Bangladesh's internal instabilities is incorrect, as data suggests that majority of those apprehended are Rohingya Muslims. Sarma highlighted that efforts to tackle illegal infiltration across Assam's borders would be more effective if coordinated by all bordering states, including West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Tripura. He emphasized that the BSF's surveillance efforts are not sufficient to prevent infiltration, and that efforts in isolation would not be effective in tackling the situation. He reiterated that state authorities are taking proactive measures to tighten border security and ensure systematic approaches to address the influx of Rohingya Muslims.
