Drugs worth over Rs 47 crore seized by BSF in 2021, 11 Bangladeshis held
India TodayThe Border Security Force Frontier of Mizoram and Cachar seized over 6 lakh yaba tablets, 340 cattle heads, 480 kg of ganja, 150 kg of opium, and a large quantity of contraband drugs valued at over Rs 47 crore in 2021. Inspector General of BSF Frontier of Mizoram and Cachar, Mridul Sonowal said, "During 2021, Mizoram & Cachar Frontier seized 340 cattle heads, 6,13,496 yaba tablets, 480 kg of ganja, 149.84 kg of opium, 1.9 kg of heroin, 609 gm brown Sugar, 1,569 bottles Indian-made foreign liquor, and 43,900 packets of foreign cigarettes." "Last year, BSF personnel seized six pistols with four magazines and four rounds of ammunition, 459 kg of hilsa fish, Indian currency of Rs 65,39,773, Bangladesh currency Taka 2,55,250 and other contraband items with a total value of Rs 47.48 crore," Mridul Sonowal said. "In the light of the recent Gazette Notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on October 11, 2021 regarding the extension of BSF’s jurisdiction, the BSF personnel can now exercise the powers conferred upon them upto 50 km of area in Assam from IB in place of the earlier 15 km.
